So, I finally got my hands on these babies! They have been around for a while, and many have already reviewed them, and as with all products, there are many positive reviews and many negatives. I was and still am a huge fan of matte finishes on lips, but I think I am leaning more towards shiny glossy finishes now. But for my everyday looks, I do prefer matte finishes, which could be challenging to find products that aren’t as harsh and drying to the skin, especially with lips having a very sensitive skin.
Few weeks ago I was walking around Trafford Centre in Manchester and, as usual for me, I walked into Selfridges (a high-end department store) and discovered a new stall, and before even looking at the brand name on the stall, these lip velvetines caught my eyes and I literally walked straight to them. To my knowledge, they were never available for purchase in-store in the UK, but now thankfully they are, along with other Lime Crime products.
The shades I bought are very similar, it was actually really hard to pick which colours and shades I wanted because the stall was FILLED with amazing colours, and obviously I couldn’t afford to get them all. They retail for £18 in Selfridges, you could also find them on Cult Beauty and Feelunique. They have been around for a while, but I’ve never actually had the opportunity to get my hands on them, so now I can finally review them, even though I might be the last one in the world (#storyofmylife). Here are the swatches along with my thoughts on each shade: –
This shade is probably my favourite of the three, it is my go-to. To me, it has a purplish mauve colour, it looks great on my skin tone, and it is an easy to match- everyday look.
This shade is so gorgeous, it is a peachy pink shade which will look amazing for the coming seasons, spring and summer. Their site explained this colour as toasted rose. So, I am looking forward to use this in the warmer seasons.
To be honest, I picked this colour thinking it would be different than Faded, it is, but they are very much similar. This shade is more of a taupe mauve colour, more of a brownish nude under tone, compared to the purplish under tone with Faded. I go for this colour when I want to look for a natural calmed look.
So here are my swatches, from left to right, first is Gigi, next is Sasha, and finally we have Faded. This picture was taken in a yellow lit room, with white flash. The colours definitely will look different on different skin shades. For mattes, they are quite creamy and not as drying as other matte lip products in the market.
I would definitely recommend these products, I would usually outline and fill in my lips with a similar shade lip liner before applying the colour. They are a liquidy-cream consistency, so you would need to give it a minute or two to set. As usual, let me know your thoughts and your favourite shades!
